Help for victims of the Grenfell Tower Disaster

Our young people have asked if we can help them support the victims of this disaster in some way, so there will be a coffee morning/sale and opportunity to donate to the Red Cross Appeal.

Fund-raising for the Churchyard

We are forming a "Friends of St Peter's Churchyard" to help keep the churchyard maintained and in good order.

Our first fund-raising event was a dramatic sponsored fire-walk on May 6th 2017. 10 volunteers came forward to take part and raise sponsorship from their families and friends. Just over £1600 was raised by this and we are most grateful for their efforts. Also to Jon Boys and his team for running the event free of charge.

Please follow this link for video and news coverage; Sponsored Firewalk Event.

The churchyard has over 2000 graves, about 1500 of which have memorial stones. Although the upkeep of graves is the responsibility of relatives of the deceasd, in most cases there are no living relatives; in these cases responsibility passes in effect to the PCC (Parochial Church Council.)

It also contains over 20 large trees and a similar number of smaller ones.

Furthermore there is the regular cost of keeping the grass cut and weeds cut back.

The PCC relies for its income upon the generosity of church members and a small income from fees for weddings and funerals. This income has to support the ministry of the Church in the parish as well as contributing towards the cost of the wider Church (including training, salaries and pensions of clergy).

The Friends of St Peter's Churchyard is therefore being formed to help raise finds for the upkeep of the churchyard.

(Please note that income from the Viney Trust cannot be used towards the maintenance of the churchyard, only the Church building. See "Viney Bequest")
